Just finished watching Save Me! I'm pretty impress on how the story unfold. My emotions are on the cliff of bursting and currently undefined. The scenes that were delivered are pretty intense to the fact that it's like a bitter pill to swallow. Every character in the drama had served their part in portraying their characters. But I just have some itsy bitsy things to say within this drama.
Save Me is about a drama of a girl named Sang Mi who wanted/asked to be saved from a cult religious group in Gweoseon. 4 friends Sang Wan, Dong Cheol, Jung Hoon and Man Hee teamed up together to save her.
I was really excited for this drama because I have stayed away from this drama for so long because I don't think I couldn't handle it. Because before watching I do check reviews first, how was it? Is it something nice to watch? But the main reason why I wanted to watch this was because of Taecyeon hahahaha... I have watched all of his dramas and Jingook (Dream High) and Gun Woo (Who are you?) are my faves. Not to mention that Seo Ye Ji is here! and Woo Do Hwan, so my siblings and I gladly take the sit and watch it!
Seo Yeji as Sang Mi. My heart aches for Sang Mi, as soon as she came to Gweoseon, she knew from then the religious group was never good. It's just so heartbreaking that she gets trapped in the middle of it all and had to be emotionally drained because of the series of events that had came for her. I have felt every pain, every fear, every moment she asked for help. The moment she looked at Sang Wan made me feel like gosh I needed to save her to!
Her emotions speaks louder than words. The moment she looked at Taecyeon's character to ask for help, the look she gave her father with disgust as she pitied him, the look she gave for her brother when she was trying to stop him, the look she gave to Spiritual Father before she said his fake and the look she gave Taecyeon and Dong Cheol as she say her thanks, it was all coming from deep within. I have felt her cries. She's really took her scenes into another level as Sang Mi.
Ok Taecyeon as Sang Wan. Our favorite Hyung. Sang Wan is a son of a politician. He's character started as someone who fights together with his friends, and whenever they see his name, everyone gets scared because he is the son of a politician. As a fan of him I just felt that his screen time or scenes were very limited and I feel like his character was too short to be elaborated. I felt like his character at the second half of the drama seems to be useless because it felt like it was all talk and I'm like what is he thinking?!?!
But his Sang Wan has the huge character growth in the series. He carefully thinks about his actions in the past and dwell it with responsibility in the present. He became the police on his own right, and he even destroyed his father's doing and of course the cult.
Woo Do Hwan is Dong Cheol. All I can say his really one good actor! His performance here overpowers Taecyeon. And whenever he cries I always say this "Oh Pinaiyak nanaman nila si DOng Cheol" They have let Dong Cheol Cry again. It felt like Dong Cheol's character seems to be like the Main Leads character. He has the maturity of remaining good and still using his guts, despite of all the the years he had to endure because of a crime that was pushed towards him. YOU ARE SOOO GOOD!
His character is always looked down because of his family status. There's this one line that a bully had said to him "You are nobody if Sang Hwan wasn't on your side" but despite all of this he has a big heart in doing the best he can to save Sang Mi.
David Lee as Jung Hoon, reunites with Taecyeon after lets fight ghost! Is one of the boys whose dad was a Police Patrol Officer. He's like a mukbang vlogger and goes on livestream during one of his investigations with the cult.
Ha Hoe Jung as Man Hee is also one of the boys who is very good hearted that his willing to jump in whenever his friends are in danger.
Jo Sung Ha as Spiritual Father. Gosh the moment I saw him I know his going to be bad! Bad I never knew that his going to be this bad! He's the head of the religious cult and could sway you with his words but beneath those words was a monster. He's really creepy that whenever I saw him, I just felt goosebumps all over. He's so good that whenever I see him oh you bad human being oh He's a beast in this show! I don't think I could look at him the same way without thinking that he once portrayed the spiritual father! His acting was OH EM!
Jo Jae Hyun is Wang Tae. I still remember him as the 360 twist in Empress Ki! Oh I hated him! From the get go you know that this man will never do anything good! He's the right hand of the spiritual leader and he always cleans up the mess in everyone in their church. His manipulative and has too much love for money.
Park Jin Eung as Jun Shil. I still remember her as the Queen Mother who never loved Wang So. She's so brainwashed in this drama. She believed that she could be save just because she followed all the teachings Spiritual Father is giving. The words she say when she's telling the students the "Boat to salvation", the way she thought of "The way to Paradise" the way she was so emotionless but ended up being wicked and cruel. I just don't get why she had the ending where she still teaches and called herself as Spiritual Mother. WHY??! After all the things she had done!
Jung Hae Kyun as Sang Mi's father was the worst of all worst. I don't know how in the world his beliefs came from. After drinking from the blessed water he had this 360 twist where everything seems to be different from the way he is! The Way he SMILED at Sang Mi telling her that she needed to be a Spiritual Mother was disgusting! :( I couldn't grasp how in the world could he manage to that!
Yoo Sun Yoon is Sang Mi's mother. I was so scared she might die in the series because of what the cult has been doing. She became mentally ill when her son died and the cult had took advantage of it. :(
Save Me, also dwell the bad side of politics. When Money is involve the world turns upside down. When power is involve evil deeds will be widely spread and greed will be over the top. It's just so saddening that a happy family was ruined because of the cult.
Save Me is very disturbing as it also tackles murder, sexual assault, bullying and all religious cult activities. My stomach turned upside down when they are showing people being lured into the religious activity. It was so intense I couldn't even blink! There are just some parts where I felt like it was hanging in someway that I needed answer for this.
There was this scene in the drama where a girl was lost after asking for 2,000 dollars to give as an offering to the so called church, but after that we didn't know what happened next. Is the case solved? Where was the child? There's also the scene where The Reporter died and we didn't know where she was buried or where she was it was just plain she died. I was also anticipating a slight connection between Dong Cheol and Dae Shik since both of them worked at the Pub after he was released from jail, I was also thinking that maybe he could be a part of the gang but yeah, it's just me wishing!
This series was a superb! But my favorite scene in this drama when Hwang San knocked at Sang Mi's window and told her I WILL SAVE YOU. The emotions where so genuinely pure that it pinched my heart. I was really hoping for more scenes like this with Hwang San and Sang Mi... but yeah it was also a wishful thinking from me.
What I have learned from this drama was the value of friendship, trust and faith with God is the soul of the drama.
Friendship, despite of all the ups and downs, even if things weren't the way we wish it would happen our friends will always have our backs no matter what. Friendship is what makes as whole as well. Our friends let us realize our worth, our friends let us realize we can do it and our friends will yell at you at us and say STAND TALL no matter what.
Trust is the core of the show, the cult leaders never trusted one another and that led them into a demise. Trust that Sang Mi has given Sang Hwan that he would save her. The reuniting trust Dong Cheol and Sang Hwan had. The trust that Sang Hwan had for his father through the years ended up as it was all lies, and it also led him in destroying his father. A mother trusting her child with everything that she needed to do in order to save them. There are lots of moment where trust was shown even in times of dark the trust to the Almighty (even if everything was all fake) was also shown in the drama.
Faith in God. I just feel sorry that this drama was a conclusion of all the lies people could do to manipulate a certain situation. If only it wasn't a cult, their belief in the Almighty that they will bring them to salvation is one thing that somehow lift ourselves. In dark trying times, we usually asked for help from above. But if you go cray cray and things are getting a bit weird and everything you hear is false, you should get out there the same way as Sang Mi did, because there might be something wrong from the inside.
I enjoyed watching the drama despite of how bad and a bit disturbing the series was. It really pushed you at the edge of your sit!
